    The first three editions of this manual have served their purpose to a great extent. The need for a laboratory manual is now felt all the more in view of the recommendations of the Veterinary Council of India (V.C.I.) to give more emphasis on practical teaching for B.V.Sc. & A.H. classes. The present edition of the manual has been divided into four separate parts. Viz, Part I - General Bacteriology. Part II - Immunology and Serology. Part III Pathogenic Bacteriology and Mycology and Part IV - Virology. Laboratory exercises in virology have been added for the first time in the manual and presented as Part IV. In the present edition recent information has been incorporated as far as possible. Seventeen new exercises have been added in Part II and three additional exercises in Part III. The exercises on Rickettsia and Chlamydia have been added for the first time in Part III. The text portion of most of the exercises has been revised and enlarged.
