|About the Author||
R Kasi Visweswaran has been a Professor with nearly 40 years’ experience in the specialty of nephrology. He has contributed chapters in international textbooks of nephrology, including Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, and is a coauthor in UpToDate. He has authored and edited books like Prescribing Drugs in Renal Diseases, Fluid Electrolyte and Acid Base Balance, Basics of Kidney, Renal Disease, Fluid Electrolyte and Acid Base Balance, and 10 volumes of the book Nephrology for Physicians. He has coedited two volumes of Current Progress in Nephrology with Claudio Ponticelli (Milan, Italy). He has occupied important positions as Vice Principal, Medical College, Trivandrum (2000-01), and President, Indian Society of Nephrology (2002-03). He is a Commonwealth scholar and has been elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh). He has been the founder member of the southern chapter of Indian Society of Nephrology, Nephrology Association of Kerala, and secretary of the Kerala chapter of Association of Physicians of India. He was among the first few in the country to be awarded ‘Dronacharya award’ by the Delhi Nephrology Society. The Scribner Award of the Southern chapter of Indian Society of Nephrology was presented to him by Prof. APJ Abdul Kalam during the Annual conference at Puducherry (2010). He is the recipient of ‘Life time achievement award’ (API Kerala chapter), Madras Kidney Trust and Trivandrum Nephrology Club. Dr Visweswaran has been awarded for numerous orations like RT Jain Memorial Oration of Western chapter of Indian Society of Nephrology, Dr JCM Shastry Memorial Oration of Indian Society of Nephrology, Dr TK Raman Memorial Oration of API (Kerala chapter), Dr Francis Mathew Oration award of IMA Pala branch, Kerala, and numerous invited lectures. He has been an invited speaker at meetings of the International Society of Nephrology. He was instrumental in establishing a full-fledged department of nephrology with postgraduate training facilities at Medical College, Kottayam (Kerala), and has trained numerous Fellows in the specialty.
