Reena J Wani MD, MRCOG, FICOG, DNBE, FCPS, DGO, DFP is currently Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, HBTMC and Dr RN Cooper Hospital and Chairperson, FOGSI Perinatology Committee (2015 to 2017). She has been in clinical practice and academics for 25 years and is a university-approved PG/UG Teacher for MD, DGO, DNB and MBBS. She received 5 distinctions and 2 gold medals in her medical career, 19 prizes and awards, and was awarded the Savitribai Phule Award from Director MCGM & SPGRC on International Women’s Day 2015 for work done in women’s health. This year she received the Meritorious Vocational Award of Rotary Club and Runanubandhu Trust from Mayor of Mumbai. She has received the MOGS Ganatra Trust Prize for contribution to social issues in women’s health 2010, MOGS Dr Duru Shah award 2012 and Late Dr RD Pandit Prize twice (2013 and 2015) for essays on reproductive health and care of women. She was nominated as one of Mumbai’s TopDocs in a peer-reviewed survey in India Today two years in a row and was the recipient of prestigious Hargobind Medical Foundation Medical Fellowship 2006. She is an invited speaker and faculty for gynecologic and other branches, having been invited by IMA, AMC, TIADCS and many NGOs for their health programs. Besides being an invited speaker, moderator, panelist and chairperson at many local, state, national and international workshops and conferences, she is a prolific writer. She has authored many chapters in FOGSI books, over 45 publications in journals, 2 textbooks Essential Obstetrics and Midwifery for Nurses, and is the editor/co-editor of 11 books, 3 of which have received FOGSI prizes. Besides being a peer reviewer for JOGI, she is section editor for The Indian Practitioner. She is a national trainer for PPTCT program and lactation management and a WHO certified trainer for adolescent reproductive and sexual health and FOGSI courses like DIPSI, HDP and CCICP since many years. She is on the board of Influenza Foundation of India and is a steering committee member of UNESCO Bioethics Unit of HBTMC. Although maternal and neonatal health is her primary focus, her interests include health of young people, infectious diseases and preventive health care in medicine. Teaching is her passion and she believes that one never stops learning.
