The present work is intended primarily to fulfil the felt needs of the profession and is the authors earnest attempt to provide a book on Infectious Diseases in a concise and compact form with an up-to-date information derived from such renowned institutions and organisations like Indian Council of Medical Research (PGI) Indian Medical Association (IMA) World Health Organization (W.H.O.) and many other hospitals and Medical Colleges in India and abroad. The work is particularly suited to the current teaching trends in Medical Colleges and hospitals in India at the under-graduate and post-graduate levels. It is also very useful for students and practitioners in other developing countries of the world as a reference book. It especially meets the needs of the under-graduates who are already overburdened with a heavy curriculum to have a clear understanding of the subject on Infectious Diseases which has been presented in a such a way that the need to refer various books on Microbiology pathology and pharmacology may not be required to a large extent. The book surves as an important reference guide to house- surgeons during their internship. Post-graduate students of General Tropical and Family Medicine and also for nursing courses and an important source of practical information given to tackle various problems of management for family physicians and general practitioners both in the hospital and community setting. The book has a total of 23 Chapters with contributions made by 38 authors both from India and abroad. The subject matter is mostly based on the clinical experience gained from Indian conditions although information called from other countries especially from those of Africa and Asia has been included.
