About the Author | Kabir Sardana MD, DNB, MNAMS was born in Dehradun and he was schooled around the country due to the frequent and predictable transfers of his father who was in the Indian Army. He graduated (MBBS, 1991) from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi with MD (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy) later (2000) from Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi. He has worked in various capacities in LHMC, MAMC, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya and Dr RML Hospital and was a Professor of Dermatology, initially at MAMC and presently at the PGIMER & Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi. Leprosy is still an existential problem, with implications beyond the figures listed in guidelines. With 195 pubmed articles and 18 published books to his credit, he realized that what's needed for dermatologists is not another book to practice cosmetology, but to refresh the art of clinical dermatology, exemplified by leprosy. When not writing, he likes to read philosophy, tries to live the philosophy he reads and inspire others to do the same. As with all other things he would like to go back someday to where he arrived at, not philosophically which we all ultimately would, but literally to his birthplace, someday. Ananta Khurana MD, DNB, MNAMS graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and then pursued MD (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy) from the University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She has worked as Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatric Dermatology, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, New Delhi before joining DR RML Hospital and PGIMER in 2014. She is presently Associate Professor at the institute. She has a keen interest in infectious dermatological disorders and has numerous publications in that domain. She has authored four books on varying aspects of dermatology including on dermatophytoses, hair disorders and eczematous disorders. The institutes of her present and past affiliation cater to a large number of leprosy cases routinely, even in the “post-elimination” era, a reflection of the fact that leprosy would take many more years to cease being a public health problem in the country. Dr Ananta Khurana, like many generations of dermatologists across the country and world, holds the Jopling's Handbook of Leprosy in high regard specially with respect to the clinical descriptions of the disease and reactions. That formed the incentive to revamp and update this legendary book into a comprehensive and updated text to aid in routine care of leprosy patients. |
