The main reference to a plant is to be found under its genus. This reference includes a brief description of the distribution of the genus, and the total number of species included in it. This will give some idea of the relative economic importance and possible economic potential of the genus.The main reference is given in italics, followed by the authorities for the name, with the vernacular name following in brackets. The country of origin follows; this does not mean that the plant is confined to this area; it may be grown widely or in areas surrounding its country of origin. Any other reference to a species is given without the authorities, and implies that the main article should be consulted.
