While functional aspects have been added to correlate the structure of the tissue with its respective functions, applied aspects also have been elaborated to foresee the importance of histology during the clinical practice. A new chapter “Key to Identification of Histological Slides”, which would help the students in identifying the slides properly, has been added. Highlights of this edition are 10–25 viva voce questions with every chapter, and their answers at the end of the book.
All the photomicrographs are of human tissues which clearly depict the features seen in human tissues. The book chiefly provides the “must know” content of human histology, which forms the backbone of histopathology.

| About the Author | Krishna Garg MS, PhD, FAMS, FIMSA, FIAMS, FASI is ex-Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi. She joined LHMC where she completed her MS and PhD and taught anatomy till her retirement. She has received fellowships of the Indian Medical Association, Academy of Medical Specialists, and the International Medical Science Academy. She was elected fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS) in 2005. She was honoured with Excellence Award in Anatomy in 2004 by Delhi Medical Association. She has received Life Time Achievement Award, Fellowship of Anatomical Society of India, and DMA Distinguished Services Award. She is visiting faculty of DNB,MDS and a PhD examiner. She is chief editor of popular BD Chaurasia’s Human Anatomy 9/e (Vols 1–4) and author of Manual of Human Anatomy Dissection, Companion Pocketbook—BDC Human Anatomy (Vols 1–3) and BDC Human Anatomy for Dental Students 3/e; coauthor of Textbook of Neuroanatomy 6/e, Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses, Anatomy and Physiology for Allied Health Sciences, Practical Anatomy Workbook, Practical Histology Workbook and Practical Anatomy Workbook for Dental Students; and editor of Human Embryology 2/e, Handbook of General Anatomy 6/e and BD Chaurasia's Applied Anatomy and Physiology for BSc Nursing Students. She has published 53 scientific papers. Gayatri Rath MS, FAMS, FIAMS is ex-Director Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, and ex-Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, North DMC Medical College and Hindu Rao Hospital, New Delhi. She is a graduate of SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Odisha (1973) and completed her postgraduation in anatomy from AIIMS, New Delhi (1981). She has been teaching undergraduate and training postgraduate students since then and has published 160 scientific papers. She is the recipient of Silver Jubilee Research Award (BC Roy National Award Fund), Most Popular Teacher Award, Dr HJ Mehta Memorial Award (Gold Medal) 2001, and Dr ML Pan Memorial Award (Gold Medal) 2002. She has also delivered Dr SP Jain Memorial Oration 2010, Prof S Hazary Memorial Oration 2012, General Amir Chand Oration Award. At present she is a member of editorial board for embryology section of Anatomical Society of India since 2013. Mithlesh Chandra MD, FIC Path is former Senior Deputy Director, ICMR National Institute of Pathology; Chairman, Pathology Consulatnacy Services and CEO, Digiscon, Noida. She has been involved in teaching histology and pathology to the medical students and oral histology and oral pathology to the dental students. She is co-author of Textbook of Oral Histology and Oral Embryology with MCQs, Colour Atlas of Colposcopy, Histology, and Cytology of Lower Genital Tract. Currently she is deeply involved with online education of students in histology and pathology using lecture videos and practical classroom videos. |
